INFRARED Through-Beam Light Barriers M40 compact

Proxitron M40 series through-beam photoelectric sensors with fiber optic connection reliably detect hot and cold objects in high ambient temperatures. Their compact design makes them particularly suitable for confined installation spaces.

Fiber optic cables in various lengths and optics for different temperature ranges allow the system to be adapted to different operating conditions. The long sensing range provides a substantial performance reserve, even in demanding environments.

The through-beam photoelectric sensor can be configured for each application using the software. Alarm functions provide early warnings of contamination and excessive temperature. A wide range of accessories offers further options for mounting, alignment and system protection.

Frequently asked questions about the M40 single-beam photoelectric sensor with fibre-optic connection

What temperatures is the M40 through-beam sensor suitable for?

The transmitter and receiver of the M40 through-beam sensor are designed for ambient temperatures from −25 to +70 °C. Using a fibre optic cable allows the sensor electronics to be installed outside the hot zone. Depending on the version, the matching fibre optic cables can be used at temperatures up to 290 °C, and the optics at temperatures up to 600 °C on the lens side.

What range does the through-beam sensor achieve?

The system comprising the LALS 600.2 S4 transmitter and the LXSLS 600.2A GV S8 receiver achieves a range of up to 250 m. The actual usable range depends, among other factors, on the fibre optic cables and optics used, their alignment and the environmental conditions.

When is a through-beam sensor with a fibre optic connection used?

A through-beam sensor with a fibre optic connection is used when hot or cold objects need to be detected reliably under demanding environmental conditions. It is particularly suitable for areas with high temperatures, intense radiant heat or confined installation spaces. Typical applications include material detection at industrial furnaces and monitoring tubes, slabs and steel sections in steelworks and rolling mills.

Which fibre optic cables and optics are suitable?

Suitable components include Proxitron fibre optic cables and optics designed for devices with a fibre optic connection. Fibre optic cables are available in various lengths and temperature ratings. The appropriate optics are selected according to the temperature at the detection point, the required detection distance and the installation conditions. For reliable detection, the fibre optic cable, optics, transmitter and receiver must be matched to one another and to the specific application
